Every generation calls it out. Every generation says it about the next. And now it's my turn. My oh my how kids have changed since "my day". A very fun concert last Friday with my lovely step niece really opened my eyes to how different the "kids" are these days. Girls from 8 to 18 wearing skirts no bigger than my socks, pushing shoving, throwing elbows, cursing, all just to get a better glimpse of Ryan Cabrera. Of course, the angelic Breana wasn't acting that way... but plenty were and needless to say, it was quite disturbing. Since when is that okay? There was a couple directly in front of us in the second row who seemed to get a kick out of the whole scene at first and then became visibly frustrated when a girl we later found out was 11 years old (!!!) started pushing and cursing her way to the front. While another girl towards the back yelled... "I want to F*&% you!!" followed by cheers and applause and then a male fan repeated that sentiment moments later. Hmmm... all this while the singer is talking about how God has lead him to follow his dreams of being on stage. ummm...congrats? Is it that kids are growing up quickly or just differently? Whatever it is, it's disappointing to say the least.
Despite that first hand experience with the youth of today, it was a lovely weekend! Even with the time change, the weekend felt nice and long. Saturday was spent on the beach and shopping and eating with Bre and Sunday was spent on the beach with Clark, Jules and Zack and then later at church followed by a BBQ at Steve and Mels new place.
Now it's the next Friday already and I am off to hang with some of the best peeps I know, enjoy some yummy food, hot wax (don't ask), karate, yummy-musical-trizzazzy-goodness, and hopefully the beach. It was a rough week, but we made it through. Hope all is well with you and yours.
ps...finally saw the movie Closer...call me crazy...go ahead...but i really enjoyed it. It's a harsh, rough, honest look at how humans can sometimes treat each other in relationships. Not healthy relationships mind you, but relationships nonetheless. And that's what life is about after all, the relationships you make and break. I heart Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts both, separately.
Song o' the day ... Delicate...Damien Rice
